Short version: the best doctor gifts are useful, quiet and a little personal. A minimalist tee for their days off, with a note about something specific they did for you or your family, will be remembered long after a gift card is spent.

A little history behind National Doctors' Day
National Doctors' Day falls on March 30, the anniversary of the day in 1842 when Dr. Crawford Long first used ether as an anesthetic during surgery in Georgia. The first observance was organized in 1933, and it became a national day in 1991. Hospitals often mark it with red carnations; one of our doctor gifts makes a practical companion to the flowers.
Doctor gifts for specialists, family physicians and everyone between
Family physicians tend to like the warmer designs, while specialists and hospitalists often pick the most minimal ones. If you are not sure, choose black or navy — they suit nearly everyone and hide the coffee spills that come with 6 a.m. rounds. For radiologists, see our radiology gifts; for the nurses they work beside, our nurse gifts.
